'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews clash with City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he recalls the thrilling closing stages of his team's stunning fightback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The game culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a spectator's eyewear amid the pitch-side pile-on.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a speculative strike from 25 yards, and the defender immediately converted the rebound before sprinting toward the home end to revel in the moment, with the crowd swarming the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The victory sealed an extraordinary recovery given the Welsh side had trailed 2-0 during the second half. Amid the delirium, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we spotted the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result booked a fourth-round match at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when Orient took the lead in remarkable manner, with the attacker's first-time shot from about 45 yards going in via the crossbar and the opposition keeper. It seems unfair that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've awarded it to him for taking the effort on from that range," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right wing-back after Orient changed tactics. That meant getting to grips with City's winger, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the City players who paid tribute to the way Orient approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Physically they are outstanding but even the fundamentals and simple things, they can just do it over and over again," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they complete every delivery and they understand how to manage and neutralize a game. You can believe you're holding your own and then abruptly they will just fizz a pass between defenders without you even seeing. You have to be switched on throughout of the game. It demands a resilient mindset and attention just to stay in the game."

New Chapter

The club sought to acquire Galbraith in January and beat off competition to sign him in the summer in a significant move. He became a favorite as a fans' favourite across two seasons at Leyton Orient and has swiftly replicated that in Wales. At his previous team he reunited with the coach, who four years ago gave Galbraith his first extended run in professional games on loan at his loan club from Old Trafford. Then came a loan at fourth-tier Salford City, before he permanently left Manchester United.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a bit naive going into men's football. I think numerous professionals would say youth team games is entirely separate. Sometimes it appears play is circulated without serious challenge. There are limited tackles or duels. Once you start playing professional matches you have to learn quickly."

National Team Success

He has demonstrated that maturation for both domestically and internationally, shining for Northern Ireland, who are fighting to qualify for the World Cup next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has started the past five games, including two matches games against a football powerhouse. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's previous international manager, offered the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he controls possession and his knack for a game-changing assist.

Starting Out

This represents an incredible journey for the player from the Queens Park estate in his hometown, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who used to see his parent, Stuart, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Manchester United Experience

The player's sole appearance for United came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the host city, where they competed on an artificial pitch and the arena covering was shut owing to conditions of freezing cold. "That proved to be a long trip and it was chilly," he comments, grinning. "The days leading up, the academy prospects worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to accompany the senior squad and earn some playing time at the end was unbelievable."

Moving On

How difficult was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged his mid-teens? "This turned out quite easy, because I got to the stage where I realized I wouldn't break through at the senior squad. I'm hugely grateful for the experience gained but it got to the point where I thought I had to take a different path, join a smaller club and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly climbing the ladder."

Welsh Adaptation

It is mid-afternoon at Swansea's Fairwood training base but Galbraith has somewhere to be at late afternoon: a learner's exam, another progress toward getting on the road. Before his recent move to the local area, the mid-twenties player was a constant rider in Swansea's so-called fun bus, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, the drivers, which transports players to and from practice and games.

"My companions include the Portuguese player, another squad member, an Ivorian player – Melker Widell used to be in it but has started driving. It's enjoyable to spend time with the teammates but I'm aiming to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and behind the wheel. His teammate likes to pull a few pranks; he's frequently playing tricks."

Fan Interactions

When he represented Orient, Galbraith would blend in with fans on London's Central line after starting his journey at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
